The Cochrane Wounds Group was established in 1995 and is one of 51 review groups around the world belonging to The Cochrane Collaboration.

The group uses predominantly randomised controlled trial evidence of the effects of interventions to prevent and treat wounds and their complications. This includes the primary prevention of pressure ulcers, leg and foot ulcers; the prevention of wound complications, e.g. surgical wound infection, scarring; and interventions to aid the healing of wounds (including burns), e.g. dressings, bandages, support surfaces. We also undertake reviews in the broad area of 'infection control' where the question does not fall in the scope of another group. Only valid, objective outcomes such as proportion of wounds completely healed at a particular time, rates of healing, incidence of new wounds or infection are considered to be eligible primary outcomes.

The group's activities are co-ordinated by its editorial base, located at the University of York in the UK. We welcome participation, whether as systematic review authors, consumers, external referees or handsearchers of conference proceedings or specialist journals.
